Stefanie Mickey is a board-certified pediatric nurse practitioner and a certified breastfeeding clinician. She provides direct pediatric primary health care services, including well-child care, management of acute illnesses and treatment of chronic conditions for children from birth to 18 years old.

Stefanie earned her bachelor's degree in nursing at the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor in Belton and her master’s in nursing at the Texas Tech University Health Science Center in Lubbock. She began her career in a small-town hospital, later moving to Memorial Hermann The Woodlands, where she worked in postpartum couplet care and cross-trained to neonatal intensive care (NICU) and lactation.

Stefanie, a fourth-generation nurse, cannot remember a time when she imagined any other career. Her mother, an emergency room nurse, told her stories of her grandmother and great-grandmother, who were nurses in World War I and II Germany, and she always wanted to follow in their footsteps.

While there is a special place in her heart for newborns and young infants, she loves working with children of all ages and sees education as a vital part of health care. She shares with patients and parents not only specific instructions, but also recommendations regarding lifestyle, diet, mental health, developmental milestones and more.

Stefanie, who describes herself as “spunky” and “a kid at heart,” takes a holistic, hands-on approach to patient care. When she is with her patients and on their level, everyone is more comfortable, and she can involve the child in his or her own health care and health care education.

She wants parents to feel that she listens and is receptive to their concerns, and that she provides the best care possible. Just as important, she wants her patients to say they want to see Ms. Stefanie when they go back to the doctor’s office.

Her greatest professional satisfaction comes from developing lasting relationships with patients and their families. What starts as educating parents and patients through their early years develops into relationships that last into early adulthood.

Stefanie is married and the mother of two sons. Away from her practice, she is active in her church and enjoys spending time with her family, which loves all things Disney. She can often be found going on bike rides, playing outside, visiting different parks and running. She loves to read, craft and collect Lego sets and Converse shoes (which are the only shoes she wears).
