Cancer

Our Cancer programs, accredited by the American College of Surgeons Commission on Cancer provide access to a combination of therapies, including medical, surgical, nutritional, physical, psychological, alternative and spiritual.

Diagnosis, treatment and support are coordinated by a multidisciplinary team of oncology physicians, nurses, pharmacists, psycho-oncology practitioners, nutritionists and rehabilitation staff. Areas of specialization include brain, breast, colon/colorectal, dermatology, gynecology, liver, lung, neurological, prostate, thoracic and urology as well as others.

Radiology plays a critical role in the diagnosis and staging of all types of cancer. The radiologists employ sophisticated, computerized imaging studies, sonographic modalities and interventional procedures as well as standard radiographic techniques like MRI, CT and PET. Standout therapies include SmartBeam IMRT, Prostate Seed Implant Radiation Therapy, Multileaf Collimator (MLC) and genetic testing.

Medical oncologists focus on diagnosis, establishing a plan of treatment and evaluating results throughout the treatment plan. Treatment may include surgery, chemotherapy, radiotherapy, biological therapy, stem cell therapy, hormonal therapy, antibody therapy or other investigational therapies. Surgical oncology is a main line of attack in the battle against some cancers.

Through an affiliation with The University of Texas Medical School, the program provides access to clinical trials and the latest innovative procedures.

The Transplant Center participated in groundbreaking studies involving the use of the life-saving immunosuppressive drugs cyclosporin and rapamycin and our success ratio put our program among the top 10% in the country.

Today we offer kidney, liver and pancreas transplants for adults and kidney and liver transplants for children. At each stage of care, from diagnosis through follow-up, transplant patients receive care from a multidisciplinary team of skilled specialists.
