General Information

Located on the Memorial Hermann The Woodlands Medical Center campus, the innovative Memorial Hermann Heart & Vascular Institute-The Woodlands Medical Center offers patients one of the most comprehensive cardiovascular care facilities in the country. With cardiac catheterization labs, advanced diagnostic screenings, electrophysiology labs, interventional radiology suites and minimally-invasive surgical suites, The Institute provides the full spectrum of heart care - from medical therapy to advanced heart surgery.

Memorial Hermann The Woodlands Medical Center is still the first and only Magnet® designated hospital for nursing excellence and quality care in Montgomery County.

Cardiac and Thoracic Surgery

The affiliated physicians on the cardiovascular team at The Institute offers a wide range of advanced surgical options for heart patients - from performing more than 60% of coronary bypass surgeries on beating hearts (without a heart-lung machine) to offering minimally-invasive replacement of the heart's aortic valve. Qualified patients may be candidates for minimally invasive coronary bypass surgery. The Institute is consistently recognized for low complication rates and excellent patient outcomes.

Additionally, The Institute, performs percutaneous Patent Foramen Ovale (PFO) closures and will soon have a Rotablator device to open coronary artery lesions that are blocked due to hard, calcific plaque. The Rotablator “bores through” this plaque, while angioplasty balloons and stents work by pushing softer plaque up against the vessel walls.

Vascular and Endovascular Surgery

Vascular surgery consists of procedures or techniques to correct blood vessels outside of the heart that may be narrowed, blocked or dilated. An alternative to traditional open surgery, endovascular surgery is an innovative, less invasive procedure that offers advantages such as smaller incisions, a shorter hospital stay, less pain and quicker return to normal activities. However, endovascular surgery is not an option for all patients.

The Institute provides comprehensive, state-of-the-art vascular and endovascular care, including noninvasive diagnostic testing, percutaneous interventional vascular treatments such as angioplasty and stents, vein ligation, cerebral thrombectomies, and surgery for conditions such as abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA), deep vein thrombosis, peripheral arterial disease (PAD), venous insufficiency and carotid stenosis. The affiliated physicians and health care teams have the range of knowledge and expertise necessary to effectively treat these often complex diseases.

Hybrid Endovascular Lab

The Institute features a lab that supports integrated surgical and catheterization procedures. The hybrid lab is equipped with the lighting, sterile field, and anesthesia capabilities required for open-heart surgeries coupled with the sophisticated imaging technology to support the most advanced percutaneous cardiovascular interventions. Cardiovascular surgeons and interventional cardiologists are able to perform collaborative procedures on patients simultaneously, potentially reducing the need for multiple surgeries.

Comprehensive Diagnostics

The Institute features diagnostic testing including services such as stress testing, nuclear medicine, 64-slice CT, echocardiogram (ECG), holter monitoring, vascular ultrasound, electrocardiogram (EKG), and heart MRI.

Awards and Recognitions

Platinum Performance Achievement Award

The award recognizes Memorial Hermann The Woodlands Medical Center’s commitment and success in implementing a higher standard of care for heart attack patients and signifies that Memorial Hermann The Woodlands Medical Center has reached an aggressive goal of treating these patients to standard levels of care as outlined by the American College of Cardiology/American Heart Association clinical guidelines and recommendations.

Cardiac Rehab

Whether you have had a heart attack, bypass surgery, angioplasty, heart transplant or valve replacement, or have angina, congestive heart failure or any other cardiac-related illness, you may benefit from the cardiac rehabilitation program at Memorial Hermann. Our goal is to help people with heart disease participate actively and confidently in their own recovery so they can return, as much as possible, to the life they enjoyed before heart disease.

The cardiac rehabilitation program is a three-phase, multidimensional, medically supervised program designed to help patients recover as quickly as possible from heart disease. With a comprehensive focus on exercise, education and lifestyle change, the program is designed to improve overall physical and mental functioning. Patients who participate in a cardiac rehabilitation program following heart surgery or a diagnosis of heart disease tend to have better outcomes in managing their condition.

*Physician referral is required for outpatient cardiac rehabilitation.
