HUMBLE, TEXAS (April 02, 2015)

Memorial Hermann Northeast Hospital screened 620 middle and high school student-athletes and provided 86 electrocardiograms (EKGs) to incoming ninth-grade student-athletes on March 24 at Summer Creek High School.

A cardiologist on staff at Memorial Hermann Northeast read the EKGs and referred two to a pediatric cardiologist at Children’s Memorial Hermann Hospital.

The Memorial Hermann Northeast Team will next travel to CE King High School in the Sheldon Independent School District on April 15 to provide athletic screenings and EKGs to all middle school and high school student-athletes.

EKG technicians from Memorial Hermann Northeast provided the on-site EKGs and volunteer physicians affiliated with Memorial Hermann Northeast, alongside nurse practitioners, nurses, physical therapists, athletic trainers and nursing students from Lone Star College-Kingwood were on-site at Summer Creek High School to provide the sports physicals.

Memorial Hermann Northeast is the official sponsor of Humble ISD, New Caney ISD and Sheldon ISD athletics. The remaining schedule for physicals is below:

  • Humble High School, April 29
  • Porter High School, May 14
  • Atascocita High School, May 20
  • New Caney High School, May 27

Physicals are required by the University Interscholastic league for any student-athlete who wishes to participate in athletics. Results are immediately available to each student-athlete along with recommended follow-up if problems are detected.

Questions about the screenings should be directed to the student-athlete’s coach or to the school athletic trainer.
