three women with awardsHonored by their fellow employees for clinical excellence were, from left, Nia Mulligan, Nurse Excellence Award; Marie Dillingham, Clinical Care Giver Excellence Award; and Angelique Devera, Support Service Excellence Award.Memorial Hermann Northeast Hospital celebrated National Nurses Week and National Hospital Week by announcing the recipients of the 2011 Service Excellence Awards. The recipients, nominated by their fellow employees, were revealed a special ceremony recently.

The recipients:

  • Nia Mulligan of the Post Care Anesthesia Unit, Nurse Excellence Award.
  • Marie Dillingham of Radiology, Clinical Care Giver Excellence Award.
  • Angelique Devera of Patient Access, Support Service Excellence Award.
  • Respiratory Therapy Department, Team Excellence Award.

Nia Mulligan, an employee of the Memorial Hermann Northeast Hospital campus for 14 years, received the Nurse Excellence Award. She was described in her nomination form as an extraordinary person who has developed her clinical expertise through the years. Mulligan is an auxiliary member of the Atascocita Volunteer Fire Department. She also is a member of the fire department's rehabilitation team providing rehydration, nourishment and basic and advanced medical needs for firefighters during training and on fire scenes.

Marie Dillingham, a Memorial Hermann Northeast campus employee for 22 years, received the Clinical Care Giver Excellence Award. Marie was described in her nomination form as the department's "go-to" person. She was cited for her compassion for her patients. Her nomination form described her concern for a little boy who was crying when he came to her department. When she found out he was crying because he lost his snack during the auto accident that injured him, she went out and bought the boy a similar snack. Marie has been a Sunday school teacher for 12 years and is involved in the Lightingales Ministry, which is made up of health professionals who handle medical emergencies on her church campus.

Angelique Devera, a financial counselor at Memorial Hermann Northeast Hospital, received the Support Services Excellence Award. In her nomination form, she was cited for learning every aspect of the Patient Access Department so she can assist wherever needed. She has helped to increase collections by 100 percent over the past two years and was a member of the team that dramatically increased patient satisfaction scores.

The Team Excellence Award recipient was the Respiratory Therapy Department, which was selected for their strong commitment to do what is right for the patient. In their nomination form, the Respiratory Therapy Department was praised for their strong bond,which enables them to be so successful and for providing smoking cessation education to every patient who needs it. Department members serve as advisors for Lone Star College.
