HUMBLE, TEXAS (May 14, 2014)

Louis SmithLouis G. Smith, Jr., CEO of Memorial Hermann Northeast Hospital, was recognized with one of Memorial Hermann's highest honors, the Dan S. Wilford Spirit Award, during the health system’s annual meeting in April.

"Louis exemplifies the outstanding leadership qualities that set Memorial Hermann apart from other health care organizations," said Dan Wolterman, president and CEO of Memorial Hermann Health System. “Day in and day out, he demonstrates integrity, spirituality, and compassion for patients, family members, employees, and volunteers at Memorial Hermann Northeast.”

The award is presented annually to the Memorial Hermann employee whose personal values and attributes most closely reflect those of Wilford, the former president and chief executive officer of Memorial Hermann. Smith was selected for his dynamic leadership qualities, communication skills and commitment to community service.

With more than 21 years of experience in health care, Smith joined Memorial Hermann in 2003. Prior to becoming the CEO of Memorial Hermann Northeast in 2008, he served in leadership roles at the System’s Spiritual Leadership Institute and at Memorial Hermann Southwest Hospital.

With a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Mississippi College Smith, Smith received a master’s degree in health administration from Medical College of Virginia-Virginia Commonwealth University. Smith and his wife, June, are parents of a daughter and son, and live in Huffman, Tx.
