THE WOODLANDS, TEXAS (March 30, 2015)

Memorial Hermann The Woodlands Hospital’s In the Pink of Health Committee is excited to announce that Joan Lunden will be the keynote speaker at its October 9th Luncheon.

Lunden is an award-winning journalist – she co-hosted Good Morning America for 17 years – as well as a best-selling author, motivational speaker, successful entrepreneur and one of America’s most recognized and trusted television personalities.

She also is a breast cancer survivor. Diagnosed in June 2014, Lunden has been battling triple negative breast cancer, a rare and aggressive form of the disease. “When something like this happens, you learn just how important it is to have a support system,” she said during an interview with cancer survivor Robin Roberts on Good Morning America.

Lunden will “pass it forward” by sharing these insights and other details on her journey through breast cancer at the 15th Annual Memorial Hermann In the Pink of Health Luncheon. She considers herself a warrior and hopes to inspire others who also are facing challenging situations – whether it is breast cancer or another hardship.

“Joan's wealth of journalistic experience, combined with her frank and touching account of her journey through breast cancer, made her the perfect choice for our event,” said Karey Miller, co-chair of the 2015 luncheon. “We are thrilled to welcome her to The Woodlands. She will be an incredible inspiration to everyone who attends.”

Andrea Alexander, 2015 luncheon co-chair agreed, “Part of our mission is to assist survivors in their journey with breast or ovarian cancer. We do this in many ways, one of which is inviting survivors to the luncheon to share triumphant stories of survivorship. Joan’s optimistic outlook is infectious and is sure to make a positive impact on our guests.”

Since its inception in 2001, Memorial Hermann The Woodlands Hospital’s In the Pink of Health Luncheon has generated more than $3.5 million dollars. This money has been reinvested into Montgomery County to fund cutting-edge technology, programs and services for breast—and now ovarian—cancer patients and survivors.
