Memorial Hermann, Community Leaders Celebrate Construction Progress at Memorial Hermann Cypress Hospital

CYPRESS, TEXAS (October 01, 2015)

Construction of Memorial Hermann Cypress Hospital is well underway. To celebrate the progress, more than 300 construction workers, community leaders and elected officials, as well as Memorial Hermann senior leadership, recently gathered for a ceremonial beam signing and barbeque lunch.

Justin Ray, Mayor of Jersey Village, Leslie Martone, President of the Cy-Fair Chamber of Commerce, and Stuart Snow, Associate Superintendent for Cypress-Fairbanks ISD, joined Scott Barbe, CEO of Memorial Hermann Cypress, and Chuck Stokes, Memorial Hermann Health System Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer to sign a 12-foot, 420-pound beam that will be included as part of the 2,000 tons of steel used in the construction of the hospital tower.

After guests signed the beam, they dined on brisket, sausage and all the fixings from Demeris Bar-B-Que, and learned more about the construction project, including these fun facts:

In the construction of the 400,000-square-foot hospital tower:

  • More than 17,000 cubic yards of concrete has been poured
  • 2,000 tons of steel has been erected
  • More than 68,00 square feet of glass has been installed
  • A crane named “Lucky,” which has been struck by lightning three times, lifted a 280,000-pound panel that now serves as a hospital wall
  • The site was formerly a golf driving range with a burger grille called “Roosters”

The $168 million Memorial Hermann Cypress campus is being constructed on a 32-acre site located on the northeast side of Highway 290 and the Grand Parkway, between Mason Road and Mueschke Road. Upon completion, the campus will house an 80-bed acute care hospital, with capacity to grow to 160 beds, as well as a convenient care center and medical office building.
