HOUSTON (January 12, 2009)

Board-Certified Family Medicine Specialist Mary A. Cross, MD, has been elected chief of staff by her physician peers for Memorial Hermann Southeast Hospital. During her two-year term, Dr. Cross will act as a liaison between the medical staff and hospital employees/administration. She succeeds Dr. Michael Warneke, who served from Jan. 1, 2006 to Dec. 31, 2008.

"It is a pleasure to have Dr. Cross serve as chief of staff for our hospital," said George Gaston, CEO of Memorial Hermann Southeast. "She is a talented and respected physician who brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to this role."

In addition to her new position at Memorial Hermann Southeast, Dr. Cross also is in private practice at Memorial Hermann Medical Group Pearland, a physician-led subsidiary of Memorial Hermann Health System.

"I am very excited about leading the medical staff at Memorial Hermann Southeast," Dr. Cross said. "The hospital has an excellent group of highly gifted physicians, and it is a pleasure to work with such a caring group of doctors."

A graduate of Northwest Missouri State University, Dr. Cross received her medical degree from the University of Missouri-Columbia. After completing an internship at the U.S. Public Health Service Hospital in New Orleans, La., Dr. Cross spent the next four years with the federal government, assigned to various locations throughout the United States. She is a member of the American Medical Association, the American Academy of Family Practice and the American Association of Physician Specialists.
