Recently, more than 50 women from Fort Bend county joined Memorial Hermann Sugar Land Hospital for “The Art of Knowing.” The free event offered top quality health information for women in a fun, creative, and comfortable setting.
Pinot’s Palette in Sugar Land’s Town Square area provided the setting offering women insight into female cancer prevention and the importance of early detection. Breast surgeon Kelly Dempsey, MD, FACS, affiliated with Memorial Hermann Sugar Land, and radiologist Ravinder Legha, MD, affiliated with MD Anderson, began the evening with a question and answer session for those who attended.
Just last year, Memorial Hermann and MD Anderson joined forces to provide enhanced breast imaging services to the greater Houston area. MD Anderson Breast Care with Memorial Hermann-Sugar Land and MD Anderson Breast Care with Memorial Hermann-Sienna Plantation, provides area residents with access to MD Anderson’s specialized breast imaging and expertise, and Memorial Hermann’s advanced technologies, access and convenience.
“I hope women came away from “The Art of Knowing” with a better understanding of what’s normal and what’s not normal and what they can do to better protect themselves,” says Dr. Dempsey. “Women need to know their body so they can tell when something is different.”
Following the question and answer time with the doctors, the group enjoyed a painting session and the opportunity to create their own works of art while sharing stories with one another.
