As president, Dampier presides over more than 250 volunteer healthcare organizations throughout Texas. The Association encourages and assists in organizing volunteer groups, develops educational opportunities at district and annual meetings, keeps members informed about pertinent health care matters, and to provide scholarships for students pursuing careers in healthcare.
Dampier's theme during her year is "The Heartbeat of Health-Embrace the Spirit." In keeping with her theme, Dampier's project will be "Healing Our Children - Emotionally, Physically and Mentally." One area she will expand on is a literacy program she began several years ago at Northeast. The program, called "Bookbusters," involves Northeast volunteers reading to children at the Hospital and at the Title 1 schools in Humble and includes giving each of these children a new book to take home.
Dampier was a volunteer on the Northeast campus from 1981 until 1989 serving as Gift Shop coordinator, secretary, first vice-president and president of the group. In 1989, she left volunteering when she was hired by Northeast as patient representative for the Cancer Center and then as volunteer and bereavement coordinator for the Hospice program. She retired from Northeast in 2001 to once again become a volunteer as well as a Ministerial Team Volunteer. She has served on the state board since 2003.
Dampier is the 2000 recipient of Northeast's Partners in Excellence Employee Award and 2001 recipient of the FamilyTime Women of Achievement Award.
Dampier is a native of North Carolina. She attended college at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, George State University and Bartlesville Wesleyan University. She and her husband, Dean, are the parents of four children and eight grandchildren. They are members of the Humble First United Methodist Church. Dampier also is a charter committee member and volunteer coordinator for the Humble Community Thanksgiving Feast.
