The program, called "Bookbusters," involves Northeast volunteers reading to children at the Hospital and at the Title 1 schools in Humble and includes giving each of these children a new book to take home.

In 1989, she left volunteering when she was hired by Northeast as patient representative for the Cancer Center and then as volunteer and bereavement coordinator for the Hospice program. She retired from Northeast in 2001 to once again become a volunteer as well as a Ministerial Team Volunteer. She has served on the state board since 2003.
